What is an ETIAS?
The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is a pre-travel authorization that ensures the safety of all travelers and residents in the European Union (EU).
Having an ETIAS travel authorization proves to the EU border authorities that you are not a health or safety risk to everyone in the EU.
Do I need an ETIAS when traveling to Cyprus?
Yes, you need an ETIAS when traveling to Cyprus.
Although Cyprus is not part of the Schengen Area, it is one of the 30 European countries that will require UK citizens to have an ETIAS travel authorization in mid-2025 to enter European borders.
I am a dual citizen of Cyprus and the UK. Do I need to apply for an ETIAS?
No, you do not need an ETIAS if you have a Cypriot passport.

Do I need an ETIAS if I will just be in Cyprus for a layover?
If you will remain in the Cyprus airport throughout the layover, you do not need a valid ETIAS.
However, if you plan to leave the airport, the border authorities will ask for a valid ETIAS travel authorization.
I am traveling to other European countries aside from Cyprus. Will I need an ETIAS for each country?
No, you do not need to apply for an ETIAS for each EU country you will be visiting.
The ETIAS travel authorization grants you entry to the Schengen Area, so you only need to apply once.

My ETIAS application was denied. What do I do?
If your ETIAS application was denied, you will receive an email detailing the reasons for the denial. The email will also specify the process for appeal.
To appeal the denial of your application, follow the process specified in the email and submit any documents and additional information within 96 hours. Once you send the additional requirements, the authorities will check it and decide in about four weeks.
With ETIAS launching next year, it is important to be updated with the latest news to ensure you don’t encounter any hiccups with your application. Check our other country guides as well to know the entry requirements if you’re traveling someplace in Europe other than Cyprus.
