ETIAS Eligibility
- Serbian citizens will be able to apply for the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) starting in 2025 as Serbia is one of the launch members of ETIAS.
- The ETIAS program is designed to streamline the travel process for eligible citizens and Serbian citizens will be able to take advantage of the convenience and efficiency of the online application system when applying for ETIAS.
- In addition to the benefits of ETIAS, Serbian citizens will have the added benefit of using a fast and easy-to-use online application system, making the process of obtaining authorization for travel to the European Union much simpler and more convenient.
Other ETIAS Requirements:
- Serbian citizens are required to apply for ETIAS online, and the process is straightforward and user-friendly.
- Travelers who intend to arrive in Europe via air, sea, or land transportation are eligible for ETIAS, making it a flexible and convenient option for those visiting for short stays such as tourism, business, transit, or medical purposes.
- To be eligible for ETIAS, travelers must hold an e-passport that is machine readable, ensuring the security and efficiency of the application process.
- ETIAS is available at no cost for travelers who are either below 18 years old or above 70 years old, making it an option that is within reach for everyone.
Serbian citizens will soon be required to obtain an ETIAS prior to entering participating European countries for short-term stays of under 90 days, for various reasons including tourism, business, transit, and medical purposes. The implementation of the ETIAS program is set to take effect from 2025, and is aimed at increasing security measures in response to the increasing threat of terrorism worldwide.
The ETIAS program was approved in 2016, and its development has been in progress for four years. The systems required for its implementation are being developed to seamlessly integrate with existing immigration databases and security data in order to provide a comprehensive new screening tool for the participating European countries. This new system will allow the European Union to better screen travelers arriving from overseas, in order to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and visitors.
The requirement of ETIAS is designed to streamline the travel process for travelers, while also providing enhanced security measures. The screening process will be efficient, and travelers will be able to apply for an ETIAS easily and quickly online. The ETIAS will be valid for a period of three years, after which it will need to be renewed. This will simplify the travel process for frequent travelers and provide a more convenient and secure way of traveling to Europe.
Starting from 2025, Serbian citizens traveling to Europe will be required to obtain an ETIAS prior to their journey. This includes those who will only be transiting in Europe en route to other destinations and will apply to all modes of transportation, including aircraft, sea carriers, and coach vehicles. The ETIAS is a necessary requirement for travelers who will be in Europe for short stays of under 90 days, for purposes such as tourism, business, transit, or medical purposes.
However, for those who wish to stay in Europe for over 90 days or for purposes not allowed under the ETIAS program, they will be required to obtain a Schengen visa. Detailed information regarding the ETIAS requirements and application process can be found by visiting the ETIAS website at https://etias.co.uk/. The homepage assessment tool can also be used to determine the specific requirements and to provide additional information.
In order to avoid any delays or the risk of ETIAS being refused, it is advisable for Serbian citizens to complete their ETIAS application at least 96 hours prior to their departure date. It is also important to review the ETIAS requirements page and the ETIAS FAQs before starting the application process to ensure that all necessary information is gathered and that the application is completed correctly.
Starting in 2025, there is a new requirement for those who wish to apply for an ETIAS. It is mandatory for individuals to be full Serbian citizens before they are eligible to apply for an ETIAS. This means that if you hold a passport or travel document with a different status, you may need to apply for a full Schengen visitor visa instead.
It is important to note that the process of obtaining an ETIAS is quick and straightforward for Serbian citizens. The application process is expected to be completed within a matter of minutes and the authorization will be sent directly to the applicant’s email in the form of a PDF document. There is no need for the applicant to physically print the document or present it at the border as the ETIAS is stored electronically in the European Immigration system.
This system is linked to the passport details stored in the database, so there is no need for the applicant to carry a physical copy of the ETIAS. The electronic storage of the ETIAS makes the process of crossing borders within the Schengen Area much more convenient and efficient for Serbian citizens.
Benefits of the ETIAS:
- A valid ETIAS is good for three years from the date of issuance, allowing travelers to enjoy the benefits of the system for an extended period of time.
- With an ETIAS, travelers are able to make multiple entries into the Schengen area, with each entry being valid for a maximum of 90 days.
- The authorization process for ETIAS is quick and efficient, with electronic delivery of the approval, making it easier and more convenient for travelers.
- The application for ETIAS can be submitted using a desktop, tablet, or mobile device, providing travelers with added flexibility in the process.
Advice for ETIAS Application:
- In order to ensure a smooth and stress-free process, it is advised that travelers submit their application for ETIAS at least 96 hours prior to their planned departure.
- If a traveler’s application for ETIAS is denied, they can still apply for a full visitor visa in order to gain entry into Europe.
- While an ETIAS does provide a level of authorization for travel to Europe, it does not guarantee entry. The final decision for entry is made by the border security personnel of the European country of arrival.
